Spent the weekend getting caught up on sleep, hand quilting (photos to come), and assembling the 7000+ 1-inch rainbow checkerboard quilt that I shared in my stories!

Amber has taken her incredible knowledge and talent for curating color and broken it down to use not just for the projects in the book, but in your other quilts as well!
After receiving a copy of the book, I had a hard time choosing which project to highlight (because 😍😍 I want to make them all!) but finally set my sights on the Kinetic quilt.
I've created a blog post highlighting my process making it but truth be told: it wasn't much of a saga.. I whipped up the entire thing in less than four hours! 🤯 You can check out the full quilt top, find more reviews of the book, and find out where to get your copy at the link in my bio!

I planned to write a blog post on this make, but ultimately ended up winging it and not having an inkling of how I could helpfully instruct others on how to make one similar... And I forgot to take (nice) photos of my process... Because I was in pre-QuiltCon panic mode.
For February's Artisan Challenge, @aurifilthread prompted us to use a thread weight that we don't typically use.
For my send-that-quilt-to-the-longarmer self, this meant HAND QUILTING!
I improv pieced a large panel of my favorite fabrics (peep that @artgalleryfabrics discontinued denim grid 😍) leftover from previous improv quilts, hand quilted in a sort of topography-inspired design, and then hacked away at it until it resembled a less tailored version of the gorgeous Japanese work wear that has become more widely shared in recent years!

Aurifil 28wt thread in colors 'Muslin' & 'Steel Blue'

Our classroom came prepped with plastic flooring fit for a crime scene and it's a good thing - because my students KILLED it this weekend (figuratively, of course 😅 because it's actually not too messy of a process)!
The entire workshop is very untraditional with lots of hands-on learning, processing, and waiting in the gorgeous sun during exposure times 🌞 We couldn't have asked for a more perfect conference venue for these classes and the weather did it's thang perfectly!

It was an adventure for me and @messyquilts at the launch of our podcast and it was absolutely overwhelming to see quilting at this magnitude. I felt SEEN. As an artist. As the creative human that I've always been, but felt like the crazy one in a group (k, maybe I AM!! 😂)
Just before this trip, I had found out that I would be working with @artgalleryfabrics for the next year and half absolutely no concept of how much my life was about to change. The other AGF "Sewcialites" and I gravitated towards one another and bonded over this crazy cool new journey we were embarking on.
QuiltCon holds a very deep and special place in my soul, because it's where I saw my beautiful quilt community grow and fall into place overnight (LITERALLY, overnight. We stayed up until the early hours getting to know one another on the hotel lobby floor. DOZENS of us!) I made some of my dearest friends those first days and each year is a celebration of this patchwork of internet-turned-real-life friendship that I know I'll cherish for the rest of my life🥹
I cannot wait to see you next week, friends.

To be in quilt community with me, is to know of my love for the giant IKEA blue (and in recent years, many fun prints) bag.
It's GINORMOUS.
It compacts down small when not in use.
And, most importantly:
It holds HELLA quilts.
I've had these pieced scraps leftover from various quilts that I've been hanging onto for something along these lines but can never quite decide which pattern to make.. because, truthfully, I didn't really want a fancy quilted bag, nor do I feel the time investment to be something that would bring me joy.
I wanted utility.
So... I made up a little franken-design that checked all of my boxes and feels very "me".
